Face time: Bill Vincent

Bill Vincent, a professor of film studies in the department of English, will travel to New Zealand this Friday to be in a remake of the 1981 film, The Evil Dead.

The director of the original film, Sam Raimi, is a former student of Vincent’s at MSU in 1979.

Raimi also was the director of the Spider-Man series and Vincent has appeared in a number of Raimi’s films. MSU alumnus Rob Tapert is producing The Evil Dead with Raimi and was a student in three of Vincent’s courses while attending MSU.

The film is slated to be released in April 2013 and The State News caught up with Vincent to discuss his role in the film and his former students.

The State News: How long will you be in New Zealand?
Bill Vincent: I’ll be in New Zealand for 10 days.

TSN: What is your role in the movie?
BV: I’m playing a hillbilly watching a girl be burned alive.

TSN: What other movies have you been in?
BV: Army of Darkness, For Love of the Game, and The Quick and the Dead.

TSN: What is going to happen to your class while you’re in New Zealand?
BV: A recent alumnus is taking over.

TSN: Why were you cast for this role?
BV: Whenever students have a part for an old person, I end up getting it.

TSN: Do you like horror films?
BV: I like writing and acting in horror films because they allow me to be creative.
