RHA approves summer budget

April 25, 2012

The Residence Halls Association, or RHA, approved its summer 2012 budget at its Wednesday night meeting, allocating about $213,000 for expenses during the summer, including travel and fees for a national conference and promotional items.

RHA Chief Financial Officer Kyle Rajel said the budget is similar to last year’s except for an increase in transportation funds for the National Association of College and University Residence Halls conference in Boulder, Colo., and allocating for a camera for public relations.

He also said he expects a lot of excess funds to be carried over into the fall semester.

“Not a lot is needed for the summer,” he said.

Also during the meeting, the assembly passed a bill amending the constitution to clarify member powers to overturn executive board decisions.

Representative Chris Rivard introduced the bill. He said it has never been an issue before, but he wanted to address how to overturn decisions with more clarity in the constitution.

The change cannot take effect until it is voted on in a referendum or approved by three-fourths of the hall governments, he said, but it can be on the agenda for more action next academic year if necessary.

The assembly also approved Brittany Campbell as director of racial, ethnic and progressive affairs at the meeting after failing to appoint anyone to the position at a previous meeting.
