MSU basketball player Derrick Nix waived his right to an arraignment on Friday in East Lansing’s 54-B District Court, according to court records.
Nix faces charges for operating a vehicle with the presence of drugs and marijuana possession after he was pulled over at 12:20 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Abbot and Lake Lansing roads for a red light violation.
Both charges are misdemeanors and Nix received a warning for the red light violation.
Nix, a junior center, averaged 8.1 points and 3.8 rebounds during this past season coming off the bench, and as the only returning senior for the 2012-13 season he was a front runner for team captain next season.
Nix has been suspended from the team indefinitely. Head coach Tom Izzo issued a statement Tuesday saying Nix’s future with the team is uncertain.
Records did not reflect when Nix’s next appearance in court would be.
