Students have a new option for cashing their checks and banking now that MSU Federal Credit Union relocated its Crescent Road branch to Farm Lane and Mount Hope Road.
The branch opened March 5 after moving from its previous location at 600 Crescent Road at the request of another tenant at the location, said April Clobes, MSUFCU’s executive vice president.
“It’s a great location for us, and a more visible and more convenient location,” Clobes said.
Since opening in March, Clobes said the branch has seen an increase of visitors, and more people have opened accounts compared to this time last year.
In addition to the services they currently provide, the Farm Lane branch also has a community room. Clobes said the community room will be used to bring in financial education programs for students and the community.
No-preference freshman Emily Moffitt lives in Case Hall and said she would benefit from the new branch.
“It’s way more convenient since I live in Case and it’s closer,” Moffitt said. “Most of my classes are near there, too.”
However, communication sophomore Victoria Weber said she doesn’t think she would switch to MSUFCU even though it now has a new location closer to south campus. Weber is from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and has had an account at PNC Bank for five years.
“It’s convenient for me because there’s a (PNC Bank) ATM right on Grand River,” Weber said. “It’s also back home in Bloomfield Hills. It’s everywhere.”
With the new branch open, Clobes said MSUFCU has special events and deals for customers, such as free umbrellas after opening a checking account.
Although environmental biology-zoology junior Brian Cari usually goes to the Grand River branch, he said it’s nice to have options.
“(The Grand River branch) is right by my house, but if I was near there I would totally use it,” Cari said.
MSUFCU also will host open houses with free popcorn and tours on Fridays throughout April to celebrate the branch’s opening, Clobes said.
Clobes said MSUFCU is continuing to expand on its nine branches. At the end of July, a new branch on Marsh Road in Haslett is slated to open.
“(We) continue to build the offices to serve the members’ needs,” Clobes said. “The credit union is growing, so we are growing to meet the needs of our members.”
