Police released new information about the arrest of alleged thief, 43-year-old James Lackey, who was caught by a Michigan State police fugitive team on Tuesday in Lansing, according to MSU police officer Chris Rozman.
Rozman said Lackey had been stealing items on campus for years, including involvement in a 2003 incident in which he physically assaulted a police officer who was investigating a number of thefts from buildings on campus.
Lackey currently has more than seven sentences on his record, dating back to a theft from a vehicle in 1984, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections. Some of his past aliases have included Christopher Michael Gwinn, Devon Lackey and Kevin Jeffery Riley.
Rozman said the team found Lackey by putting “boots to the ground,” talking to members of the community and conducting interviews for information.
“It was good police work and a lot of good investigation,” he said.
Lackey currently is being held at Ingham County Jail.
