In high school, while sitting in foods class, MSU alumna Lauren Long found out about an opening at a bridal salon called the Wedding Bell. She jumped at the chance to take the job, and she’s been consulting brides ever since.
“It’s always a happy time for people, and I think that feeling is contagious,” said Long, an Okemos resident.
Her career as a bridal consultant started at the Wedding Bell, 5100 Marsh Road, in Okemos, about 12 years ago. As she moved across the country, she worked at different bridal salons and now is back where she started.
Each consultation starts with a discussion of the vision for the wedding, and then both the bridal party and the consultant select different gowns.
As Long helped DeWitt, Mich., resident Ashley Smith into a lace dress last weekend, Smith’s mother exclaimed how beautiful the gown was.
“It’s a great feeling,” Long said. “You have helped them reach their goal. The vision is complete.”
