Satrang show highlights Indian culture

March 16, 2012

On Friday evening, the Coalition of Indian Undergraduate Students invited MSU students, friends and families to Satrang 2012: Afansa at the Auditorium.

Lively dancing, powerful singing and upbeat mixtures of American and Indian music filled the auditorium and entertained an audience of nearly 500 during the east meets west show.

Groups performing included Spartan Sur, Panjaa, Hum Tum, Girl’s Fusion, Veera and MSU Bhangra. Each musical number held its own theme such as gypsies, South Asian and Bollywood, India’s version of Hollywood.

Electrical engineering sophomore Radhika Somayya, who performed in a gypsy dance with Beauty Aur Geek, said she has been dancing since she was four.

“I love dancing,” she said. “I figured I had to do gypsy because I’ve done classical, a little bit of traditional and Bollywood. It was a lot of fun.”
