Attempted mugging reported in downtown E.L.

March 6, 2012

?An attempted mugging occurred at about 7:30 p.m. at the corner of Albert Avenue and Abbott Road, ?East Lansing police Sgt. Carl Nowak said.

?Two white males attempted to steal a young woman’s purse. One male had a shaved head, and they were both between 5’8” to 6’ feet tall, Nowak said.

The young woman held onto her purse and the perpetrators fled heading northbound on Abbott.

Nowak ?said the muggers were probably unsuccessful because it is a crowded area, which he said was an uncommon area for thefts to occur.

?“That’s very unusual,” he said. “That’s the first bad one we’ve had downtown in a long time.”
