Two men wanted by police in New Jersey for charges including armed home invasion and aggravated assault were arrested Feb. 7 at Chandler Crossings by the Michigan State Police Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, U.S. Marshals officials said.

The suspects, Daryl Smith, 20, and Cedric Flippin, 21, were staying in a Chandler Crossings apartment with an acquaintance, said Steve Hetherington, supervisory deputy for the U.S. Marshals Service of the Western District of Michigan.

Hetherington said the men are suspects for shooting two people multiple times during an armed home invasion in Mercer County, N.J., on Jan. 20.

The condition of the victims are unknown, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Chandler Crossings management did not specify the section of Chandler Crossings where the incident took place.

Larry Viles, the executive and regional director for Chandler Crossings, said in a statement that the management team cooperated with Michigan State Police and the U.S. Marshal Service as they secured the suspects.

“Chandler Crossings management accommodated the request of authorities to help capture wanted suspects who were not residents who crossed state lines,” Viles said.

Although the arrest was worrisome to Chandler Crossings resident Michelle Holcomb, it was unsurprising in the wake of other crimes in the area.

“It’s crazy, but I’m not fazed,” Holcomb said. “There’s a lot of crime here all the time. … We just keep our doors and windows locked.”

Journalism sophomore and Chandler Crossings resident BriAnn Harvey said she has not received any emails or notifications from management informing her of the arrests.

“I am a little disappointed in the apartment management for not letting us know (about the arrests),” Harvey said.

The men are being housed at Clinton County Jail in St. Johns, Mich., and are awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
