RHA fixes movie office glitches

January 11, 2012

Movie rentals offered through the Residence Halls Association, or RHA, campus movie offices are expected to be up and running within the next week, after a series of technological glitches prevented students from renting movies.

RHA Director of Movie Offices Justin Love said poor Internet connections in the offices have posed problems for students renting movies, and he has scheduled for technological assistance in fixing the problems.

“For everything we do right, four things go wrong,” he said at RHA’s Wednesday night meeting. “I’m convinced this is cursed.”

The offices had technological problems for much of last semester that prevented freshmen and transfer students from renting, as well as the current rental issues.

Currently, only the Akers Hall movie office is open, but Love said the offices in Brody, Gilchrist and Mason halls should be working again next week.

The new location for presidential elections for the Residence Halls Association also was announced during the meeting. The elections, which will be held Feb. 22, have been moved from Van Hoosen Hall to Shaw Hall.

RHA President Sarah Pomeroy said she wanted to keep the elections near Van Hoosen Hall, where the elections were held for 42 years until RHA’s membership exceeded Van Hoosen’s capacity.

RHA Director of Health and Safety Zachary DeRade presented the results of a health and safety survey conducted in November 2011 at RHA’s Day at the Rock event. RHA received approximately 120 responses regarding health services RHA provides and ways the group can improve interaction with students.

The representatives also heard a presentation from Angela Brown, director of Auxiliary Resources, asking how to improve the service of the Spartan Bookstore in the International Center.

Brown said the bookstore staff plan to reinvent the store in the future and expand its inventory to make it more easily accessible.

Several RHA representatives voiced their concerns with the current functionality of the bookstore, including poorly advertised products and a more organized book selection.
