The MSU men’s tennis team lost their first dual of the season to Mississippi State on Friday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
Although both teams entered the matchup with perfect dual records, Mississippi State defeated MSU 5-2.

Junior Denis Bogatov and freshman Harry Jadun earned the Spartans their only victory in doubles action, beating the Bulldogs 8-7 (6) in a tie-breaker. Spartan sophomore Aaron Pfister and senior Austin Brooks lost to their opponents 8-4, and sophomore Drew Lied and senior Mat Nelson were defeated as well, 8-3.
There was more hope in singles play when MSU started off strong, taking the first sets on five of the six courts. They faced the Bulldogs in three three-set matches but only won two.
Senior Ronnie Hulewicz picked up the team’s first 6-2, 6-1 win, and junior Will Davis earned a victory with scores of 6-4 and 7-5, respectively.
But Brooks, Lied, Bogatov and freshman Gijs Linders all fell to their competitors. Brooks lost his match 3-6, 6-3, 6-0, Lied lost 7-5, 6-1, Bogatov lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and Linders lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
