Student death likely drug-related

November 30, 2011

East Lansing police investigators have reason to believe drugs were involved in the death of psychology senior Nick Charboneau earlier this week, East Lansing police Capt. Bill Mitchell said.

No final ruling has been made as to the cause of Charboneau’s death because the results of his autopsy and toxicology report still are pending, but responders to the scene said it likely was drug-related, Mitchell said.

The results from the autopsy could be ready within a week, but the toxicology report — which would reveal what, if any, drugs were in Charboneau’s system at the time of death — could take six to eight weeks to complete.

Charboneau died in his East Lansing home, 279 Milford St., and was found laying on his bedroom floor by his roommate, human biology senior Sara Wennersten, at about 3 p.m., Monday.

The incident is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.
