Cool carvings

December 8, 2011

For Lansing resident and ice sculptor Scott Miller, the winter is business time. Miller, who has owned and operated Miller Ice Sculptures since 1993, is the busiest in the winter.

After leaving the culinary field for ice sculpting, Miller has been making a name for himself and his business. In the winter, he sculpts at numerous outdoor events such as the Winter Glow, which was held Dec. 3 in downtown East Lansing.

Saying Miller likes his job is an understatement.

“I still tell my wife all the time it doesn’t feel like I’m working hard or putting in that many hours,” Miller said. “I do stuff, and I don’t even realize it.”

Miller does not concern himself entirely with achievements or others’ opinions of him. Instead, Miller said he likes interacting with people and wants to see their expressions as they view his work.

Miller has truly found his calling in life.

“I still pinch myself when I come back,” he said. “I can’t believe this is what I’m doing for a living.”
