ASMSU remembers students, manages finances

December 1, 2011

Following the deaths of two MSU students in the past two weeks, ASMSUMSU’s student government — took a moment to reflect during its General Assembly meeting Thursday night in Student Services.

ASMSU General Assembly Chairman Steve Marino said the students’ deaths were “all too familiar” and a tragedy that happens too frequently.

The assembly also approved a memorandum to transfer excess money from tailgate revenue to other areas of the budget during the meeting.

ASMSU Comptroller Nick Pagnani said $10,100 remains in tailgate revenue this semester and will be moved to other budget categories to prevent the money from sitting idle.

Pagnani said 60 percent of the funds will go into the special projects account and 40 percent will be reused in the tailgate budget.

By a consent vote, the assembly also approved Milan Griffes as the College of Music representative. ASMSU Secretary Chris Noffze said Griffes has been coming to meetings regularly despite not being an official assembly member and should be granted full voting privileges for next semester.

In addition, representatives appointed Aaron Letzeiser to the University Student Appeals Board.

Noffze said a student left the University Student Appeals Board, leaving too few people to address student appeals from university hearings. Letzeiser was appointed to gain the adequate number of people to allow appeals to continue, he said.
