With polls closed, East Lansing City Council candidates shared their thoughts on Election Day and the pending results with The State News:

“I’m glad (the campaign) is over. … I’m not comfortable with the whole campaign thing. Bragging about myself is not my thing. I hope my work speaks for itself.”
-Diane Goddeeris

“I just don’t know (how I feel). It’s always kind of interesting on Election Day. You’re not quite sure how things will go, but I’m hopeful.”
-Roger Peters

“I worked hard, the volunteers put in a lot of support. We were out there until the very end of the day and I’m proud of the campaign we ran and the positive message we put out there. I think the voters will be responsive to it, but we’ll find out here shortly.”
-Nathan Triplett

“All I know is that we didn’t look at this in terms of winning and losing. If I don’t make it we’re going to form a foundation and the city council will see us all the time.”
-Don Power

“This isn’t a game. Win or lose, the dismal voter turnout, in a critical election that will dictate how we will proceed in dealing with the two most important issues facing our community – the massive budget crisis in City Hall and the education of our children – is indicative of an uninformed and misinformed citizenry, and it reflects widespread laziness and apathy on the part of the news media and the citizens who fail to recognize the seriousness of the problems that we face and our civic duty to participate.”
-Hans Larsen
