The case is being handled by Krause because of a conflict of interest in the Mescota County Prosecutor’s Office — someone in the office knows the victim, a 13-year-old girl.

Krause also confirmed Tait was one of six men involved in the criminal sexual conduct case. Two other individuals, including his brother Kyle Tait, face three charges of third degree sexual conduct, the other three men face either one or two counts of the same charge against the same girl.

MSU director of track and field and cross country Walt Drenth confirmed Tait was on the track and field team, but was suspended when his “legal issues” were brought to the attention of the coaching staff.

Drenth said Tait still has access to tutors and athletic training facilities, but he has not been in contact with the team or participated in a practice in about three weeks.

Drenth said, to the best of his knowledge, Tait still is attending classes, but Drenth has not spoken to him since the suspension.

All six men are out on $10,000 bond. None of the other men attend MSU.

All six are scheduled to appear in 77th District Court for a pre-trial hearing at 10 a.m. Nov. 29.
