It is almost the weekend. Classes are ending, and students are ready to unwind. Here is a roundup of events to attend during the weekend respite.
1. Neon Halloween:
At 9 p.m. Saturday, Mac’s Bar, 2700 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing, will host Neon Halloween, an electronic music event for people ages 18 and up.
For an admission price of $7, attendees can dance to local disc jockeys, including Roque Ybarra, Xaos, Inov8, Dry Bones and Andy Lynch, spinning spooky grooves. The event will also feature a costume contest.
2. Michigan music at The Loft:
This weekend, The Loft, 414 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing, will feature a variety of Michigan acts.
At 7 p.m. Friday, Ann Arbor songwriter Chris Bathgate will perform. Milford, Mich., folk artist Jeff Pianki, Lansing-based band Gifts or Creatures and Detroit’s The Juliets also will perform.
Lansing folk act Frontier Ruckus will return for a performance at 7 p.m. Saturday. The band will share the stage with a group from Britton, Mich., Timothy Monger State Park, as well as Grand Rapids group the Soil & the Sun.
At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Detroit death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder will play a Devil’s Night show, along with Cannabis Corpse, Deadlight and Beast In The Field.
3. “The Rocky Horror Picture Show:”
“The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” a classic Halloween movie first released in 1975, will be shown at 8 p.m. Friday at the International Center.
The University Activities Board will provide prop bags for this interactive film to the first 500 people through the doors. There also will be a costume contest in which the night’s winner will receive a gift card. The event is free to all MSU students.
4. Tony Bennett concert:
Come and see a man who has produced more than 100 albums and who has received 15 Grammy Awards during his musical career.
Wharton Center will be hosting the jazz artist in a concert that starts at 8 p.m. Friday in Cobb Great Hall. Tickets range in price from $37-$77.
5. Vampires vs. zombies roller derby:
Mesmerizing hits and checks will take place as women dressed as vampires and zombies skate around a roller rink Saturday.
Lansing Roller Derby’s Mitten Mavens will split up and face off — vampires vs. zombies — in a roller derby event in Demonstration Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the event begins at 7 p.m. Admissions for MSU students is $8 and regular admission is $10.
