On Saturday, the MSU volleyball team will host No. 11 Purdue for its last home match before going on a four-match Big Ten road trip.
The Spartans (17-6 overall, 6-5 Big Ten) were swept 3-0 by the Boilermakers earlier in the season, but this time they have the advantage of playing at home and with the knowledge of what Purdue brings to the table. A victory also would mark the first back-to-back wins since the Spartans rode a five game winning streak into their last game against Purdue on Sept. 23.
During a 3-1 win against Indiana Wednesday night, Michigan State saw increased production from its middle blockers, especially freshman Jazmine White and sophomore Alexis Mathews. If the pair continues that level of play against Purdue, they will serve as an excellent complement to senior outside hitters Jenilee Rathje and Kyndra Abron.
MSU also will need to see production from freshman libero Kori Moster, who tallied 13 digs the last time the two teams met
With the Spartans beginning to creep in the NCAA Coaches poll after a 3-1 victory over then-No. 21 Michigan last week, another win against a ranked team possibly would help boost their ranking and increase the team’s chances of making the NCAA tournament.
