“Ever since I have been at MSU, (the club) has participated in cleaning up the river,” fisheries and wildlife senior Carly Barnes said.

From the past years of cleaning the Red Cedar River, the club has found some very unique items that have been thrown into the river, she said.

“One time we pulled out an entire bike rack with bikes still locked to it,” Barnes said.

“Every time we pull out at least a dozen bikes, computer parts, hubcaps and glass bottles.”

The club also has invited other environmental student organizations to help clean up the river, and a local Boy Scout group is helping to clean the river as well, Barnes said.

Volunteers who sign up for the event will receive a free T-shirt and a pizza.

“I think for us it is a really good way to give back to the MSU community, and what most people don’t know is that the Red Cedar River is very clean,” Barnes said
