Dantonio must discipline player

As a 2003 MSU alumnus, I am of course thrilled the Spartans soundly defeated the Wolverines on Saturday. What I am not happy about is the lack of class shown by the Spartans and complete absence of discipline by head coach Mark Dantonio. Sophomore defensive end William Gholston should have been ejected from the game for throwing a punch and also twisting quarterback Denard Robinson’s neck after a play was dead. Instead, he only was flagged, and Dantonio and crew did, well, nothing. This kind of behavior has no place in college football. Although Dantonio has done an exceptional job as far as wins and losses at MSU, his failure to adequately discipline players is a concern. He should have kicked ALL of the players involved in the 2009 dorm fight off the team and sent a message that playing football at MSU is a privilege not a right. But since Dantonio doesn’t impose consequences on his players they think they can get away with anything. See Chris L. Rucker getting a DUI and returning to team immediately after getting out of jail. My fellow Spartans, we are better than this and need to demand more class from Dantonio and crew. Like it or not, Spartan athletics is what represents our university more than anything else in the public eye. We have turned a corner as a football program, and when we beat a team like Michigan, we should act professionally — like we’ve been there before — because after all, we have four years in a row. Go State!
