Lawmakers introduce bill calling for MSU to lose $18.3 million in funding

September 21, 2011

MSU could lose $18.3 million if a bill introduced in the Michigan House of Representatives this week is successful, according to an article in the Detroit Free Press.

The bill would take back the money MSU was awarded as part of an initiative given to universities that kept tuition under 7.1 percent, the article said.

During the summer, MSU’s tuition increase was reviewed by a House higher education appropriations subcommittee, after MSU’s increase for the 2012 school year was called into question. MSU was found to be in compliance with the state’s tuition restraints and would be able to keep the additional funding.
