Cross country to host 1st home meet

The MSU cross country team will host the 2011 Spartan Invitational at 1 p.m., Sept. 16, at Forest Akers East Golf Course.

Nearly 25 schools are set to attend, including Grand Valley State, Michigan and Eastern Michigan.

Running the 8K route, the college men’s team will kick off the race, followed shortly by the women at 1:35 p.m. for the 6K.

Junior Isaiah VanDoorne will be among the MSU men’s team on Friday. Earlier this season VanDoorne took first with a time of 15:39.73 in the 5K race at the Jeff Drenth Memorial at Central Michigan University.

Winning the women’s race with a time of 18:23.63 was junior Rachel McFarlane, who will also be competing this weekend.

Parking will be available free of charge for spectators in Lot 89 on the corner of Mt. Hope Road and Farm Lane. Admission to the meet is $7 for adults and $5 for children.
