Arts council awards cultural grants

September 21, 2011

The Arts Council of Greater Lansing awarded $10,400 on Aug. 30 to local arts and cultural agencies to encourage collaboration and new projects in the Lansing area.

The MSU Department of Theatre received $4,000 of the funds.
The department will use the money to work with the Lansing City Market to create “Comfort Food,” a play about MSU’s large cookbook collection.

After also receiving $4,000 from the council, REACH Studio Art Center, 1804 S. Washington Ave., in Lansing, will be producing “The 3Rs (REACH/REO Rhythms)”, a film about 30 Lansing 7- to 12-year-olds, to later distribute to local schools.

The Lansing Symphony Association received $2,400 from the arts council and will work with the Capital Area District Library to present children’s concerts at the Downtown Lansing Library with the funds.
