Women's basketball slated to play Texas

July 17, 2011

As a rematch from last season, the MSU women’s basketball team will play Texas on Dec. 10 in Austin, Texas, for the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge, the conferences announced Thursday.

Last season, the Spartans upset then-No. 17 Texas at home, 71-57, to help the Big Ten win the challenge, 7-5.

In MSU’s win, then-junior forward Lykendra Johnson recorded a double-double, leading the Spartans with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while then-senior forward Kalisha Keane also posted 20 points.

MSU and the Longhorns have met a total of four times. Aside from the challenge last season, the most recent matchup was in the second round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament, where then-No.1 Texas defeated MSU, 80-61.
