Lansing resident Liz McMurray, owner of Liz’s Alteration Shop, 1810 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing, says she has been given a gift by God.
McMurray began sewing at age 7 when she made a christening dress for her pastor’s daughter out of her mother’s pillowcase and has not stopped since.
“God gave me this gift, and when he gives you something, you have to perfect it to make it work for you for the rest of your life,” McMurray said.
Her shop has operated successfully for more than 30 years and she has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
McMurray attributes her success to word of mouth, as well as her deep passion for tailoring.
Lansing resident Karen McCumber is one of McMurray’s many clients who heard about her through a friend and was so impressed with her work that she refuses to take her business elsewhere.
“I’ve been a customer of Liz’s for 20 years,” McCumber said. “She does the best work in town, and I don’t take my clothes any other place to be altered.”
