Rowing splits pair of races

The MSU women’s rowing team split a pair of races this past weekend, losing to Wisconsin and defeating Minnesota in its only home meet of the season.

The Spartans defeated the Golden Gophers, 44-25, behind four victories in team races. Those victories included three wins in which they beat Minnesota by at least 11 seconds. Out of those wins, they posted the lowest time of any team in the varsity eight race, winning in 6:34.12.

Against Minnesota. MSU lost just one race overall, by a narrow margin of just under two seconds.

Against Wisconsin, the defending Big Ten champions, MSU went down in a tight contest, 36-33.

The Spartans won two races over the Badgers — both by more than five seconds — in the varsity eight and second novice eight races. They lost a third race by just .80 seconds.

MSU next will compete against Texas and defending national champion USC on April 16 in Charlottesville, Va.
