Linthicum pleads guilty to reduced charge in Colo.

April 13, 2011

Junior tight end Brian Linthicum was sentenced Tuesday in Pitkin County, Colo., for an altercation in an Aspen, Colo., bar on March 10.

Linthicum, 23, pleaded guilty to a harassment charge and the charges of third-degree assault and eluding arrest were dismissed.

He was given a 12-month deferred sentencing, meaning if he completes the court’s requirements, the harassment charge also will be dismissed, a clerk for the judge said.

Linthicum and freshman linebacker Max Bullough were in Aspen for spring break and while at a bar March 10, Linthicum allegedly punched a man in his mid- to late-20s in the face.

Both Linthicum and Bullough ran from the police, and Linthicum had to be subdued with a Taser, Aspen police Sgt. Chip Seamans said in March.

Bullough, 19, is charged with minor in possession of alcohol and eluding arrest, and will appear in court on Tuesday.

Linthicum’s court costs totaled $111, and according to the terms of his deferred sentence, he must complete 12 alcohol abuse classes, an anger management course and 40 hours of community service, the clerk said.

If Linthicum meets these stipulations, his guilty plea will be removed from his record but the charge will remain, as will the other two charges.

Linthicum has a required review hearing in Pitkin County at 11 a.m. Oct. 11, at which point the court can verify he has been following its guidelines.

MSU Associate Athletics Director John Lewandowski said there was nothing new to address and had no additional comment on the situation.

Linthicum and Bullough were held out of the first two days of spring practice in March.

Linthicum, who will be a senior in the fall, is expected to be a starter in the upcoming season. Last season, he totaled 18 receptions for 230 yards in 13 games and caught one touchdown, which came against Northern Colorado.
