Students have voted in favor of renewing ASMSU’s $16.75 tax, an extra $1.25 tax for the Readership Program and to approve the constitutional amendments to postpone implementation of 501©(3) status and to reinstate a temporary Academic Assembly.
ASMSU is MSU’s undergraduate student government.
758 students voted in favor of the $16.25 tax renewal, with 164 students voting against it and 49 abstaining.
797 students voted in favor of the $1.25 tax for the Readership Program, which provides four daily newspapers free of charge for students on campus. 163 students voted against and 11 abstained.
439 students voted in favor of postponing 501©(3) status and 91 voted against. 143 students abstained.
When it came to reinstating Academic Assembly, 465 students voted in favor of the amendment and 102 voted against it. 106 voted to abstain.
Students also elected the candidates to represent the various colleges and departments in ASMSU.
Incumbents who were reelected include general management sophomore Noah Berger and supply chain management junior Ben Wernette to represent the Eli Broad College of Business; applied engineering sciences senior Dan Dreliozis for the College of Engineering and international relations junior Evan Martinak for James Madison College. Environmental geosciences senior Ryan Lee Nagelkirk also was relected to represent the College of Natural Sciences.
Packaging junior Jonathan Ottarson and agribusiness management senior Nickolas Schlatter were elected to represent the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Communication sophomore Mone’ Ross was elected to represent the College of Communication Arts and Sciences.
Social relations and policy freshman Emily Bank was elected to represent James Madison College along with Martinak.
Political theory and constitutional democracy junior Dylan Miller was elected to represent Lyman Briggs College.
Political science sophomore Ramiro Galvan and general management sophomore Denzel McCampbell were elected to represent the College of Social Science.
