The MSU softball team capped off a good weekend with two wins on Sunday to finish 4-0 at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind.
The Spartans defeated Central Michigan, 3-0, and Wright State, 6-3, on Saturday, before defeating Eastern Michigan, 9-1 in five innings and Loyola, 8-3, on Sunday.
Freshman pitcher Cassee Layne pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks in the Spartans’ win against the Chippewas. Junior catcher Brett Williams hit a two-run homer and senior shortstop Lindsey Hansen drove in two runs to help the Spartans in the win against Wright State.
Layne pitched five innings, allowing one run and four hits in the Spartans’ win against Eastern Michigan, while Williams had three hits and three RBIs in the game. Junior outfielder Lori Padilla and sophomore third baseman Jayme O’Bryant each had three hits and two RBIs against Loyola.
MSU moves to 18-10 and has one more nonconference game against Valparaiso on Friday before starting Big Ten play.
