Dwaun Anderson named Mr. Basketball

March 21, 2011

Dwaun Anderson — a 6-foot-4 guard from Suttons Bay High School — was announced Monday as the 2011 Hal Schram Mr. Basketball award winner, given to the top senior boys’ basketball player in the state of Michigan.

Anderson becomes the third consecutive future Spartan to win the award, joining freshman guard Keith Appling and sophomore center Derrick Nix, both out of Detroit Pershing High School. Also, Anderson is the first player from Northern Michigan to win Mr. Basketball.

The award is voted on by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan, with each member voting for their top three candidates. Anderson received 2,053 points followed by Lansing Eastern’s LaDontae Henton (1,746) and Birmingham Detroit Country Day’s Amir Williams (1,429). Carlton Brundidge from Southfield High School finished fourth with 1,334 points and Detroit Southeastern’s Brandan Kearney — another MSU commit — finished fifth with 1,240 points.

After leading his team to a second-place finish in Class C as a junior, Anderson averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game for the Norsemen during his senior season.
