The MSU baseball team lost two out of three games against Evansville this weekend in the final weekend before conference play.
The Spartans opened the weekend with a 10-3 win on Friday, before breaking a five-game winning streak with a 2-0 loss on Saturday, and finishing with a 6-5 loss on Sunday.
Down 3-2 in the ninth inning of Friday’s game, MSU rallied for eight runs, using senior first baseman Jeff Holm’s two-run single in the ninth to go ahead, and RBI contributions from five other players.
Junior pitcher Tony Bucciferro pitched a complete game and gave up two runs Saturday, but the Spartans only could generate eight hits and no runs in Saturday’s loss. Holm and sophomore designated hitter Jared Hook each had two hits and two RBIs in Sunday’s loss.
MSU moves to 12-5 on the season and begins Big Ten play with three games against Michigan next weekend. The Spartans play their first home game at 1:05 p.m. Saturday against the Wolverines.
