If you walked past the rock on Farm Lane this past Saturday, you might have wondered what people were doing running around with brooms and throwing balls at each another.

The MSU traveling Quidditch team hosted a match against the University of Michigan team, a rivalry that rings true in the magical world.

“The rivalry between MSU and U-M is even more hardcore in Quidditch,” said Mike Parr, a mechanical engineering senior and seeker. “With smaller teams, you get to know everyone, which makes it all the more competitive.”

The game, inspired by J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, is played by muggles with brooms, dodgeballs and hula hoops.

“The whole concept of sticking a broom between your legs and running around throwing balls through hoops is so foreign to people,” said Parr with a laugh.
