The opening match began with 125-pound junior Eric Olanowski recording an 11-2 major decision.
Senior Joel Trombly was edged 6-5.
Sophomore Dan Osterman and freshman Sean McMurray won back-to-back decisions at 149 and 157 pounds, reclaiming the lead, 10-9, at intermission.
The lead was regained by Ohio State following a major decision over senior Ben Boudro at 165 pounds, 12-2. The Buckeyes held onto this lead for the rest of the afternoon.
Junior Curran Jacobs at 174 pounds lost in the second tiebreaker, 3-2.
Keeping the Spartans in the duel with a 3-1 sudden victory in overtime, 184-pound junior Ian Hinton cut the Ohio State lead to 16-13.
Junior Tyler Dickenson at 197 pounds was then defeated in a sudden victory, 3-1.
The duel ended with redshirt freshman heavyweight Mike McClure winning a 3-0 shutout.
The Spartans will face Central Michigan at 7 p.m. on Friday at Jenison Field House.
