Cross country wraps up season at NCAA Championships

November 23, 2010

The MSU cross country teams concluded their season Monday at the 2010 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.

The No. 16 women’s team finished 23rd out of 31 teams with a score of 481.

Individually, in a field of 253, senior Emily MacLeod was the 37th racer to cross the finish line and had a time of 20:48.1.

The top-40 finish earned MacLeod USTFCCCA All-America honors for the first time in her career to go along with her Big Ten honors.

“Emily did a great job of recovering from an average start to earn All-America honors to cap a brilliant fall,” MSU director of cross country and track & field Walt Drenth said.

Villanova took home the women’s team title and junior racer Sheila Reid completed the race with the best time of 20:06.9.

The men’s team didn’t qualify for the championship, however, redshirt senior Patrick Grosskopf’s regular-season performance gave him a chance to compete individually.

Grosskopf ran a time of 32:18.1, and came in 206th of 246 runners.
