After 110 minutes, neither the MSU women’s soccer team (9-4-3) or No. 23 Minnesota team (10-5-3) could pull out a victory.
The two teams ended with the score 1-1. In fact, for the last 104 minutes the game went without another goal.

The two teams ended with the score 1-1. In fact, for the last 104 minutes the game went without another goal.
Just three minutes into the contest, MSU junior forward Hannah Peterson found sophomore forward Olivia Stander, who put the ball into the back of the net.
Stander’s goal was her eighth of the season and gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead.
However the team was unable to hold the lead for long. Golden Gophers’ Molly Rouse scored in the sixth minute of the game. Both Kylie Kallman and Katie Shellander were given credit for the assist.
The Golden Gophers outshot the Spartans 20-11 and also had more corner kicks, 14-2. The Spartans’ first corner didn’t come until less than a minute left in the first overtime period.
Both junior forward Laura Heyboer and junior goalkeeper Jill Flietstra possibly could have made MSU history entering this game. Heyboer needed just a single score to become MSU’s all-time scoring leader, however, she couldn’t find the net.
With 11 shutouts, Flietstra needed one more to tie the MSU single-season record. With Minnesota’s high-powered offense it’s not surprising that opportunity was wiped out so early.
Both players will look to try again next weekend when the Spartans play their last two home games of the season.
