Spartans lose first conference game

October 3, 2010

The No. 11 MSU men’s soccer team suffered its second loss of the season Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 to No. 19 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.

The Spartans (7-2, 1-1 Big Ten) took an early lead 16 minutes into the game on a goal by junior midfielder Cyrus Saydee.

The game went into halftime tied 1-1 after the Buckeyes (6-2-2, 2-0) scored in the 19th minute.

The Buckeyes scored again at the 64:09 mark and never allowed the Spartans to capitalize on a number of chances, including an open-net miss by freshman forward Tim Kreutz.

Ohio State held a 15-7 shot advantage in a rainy game at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

The Spartans will return to action against New Hampshire Wednesday at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field.
