MacLeod earns Big Ten running honor

October 5, 2010

MSU women’s cross country runner Emily MacLeod has won her second Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week award this season, the conference announced Tuesday.

The honor comes after the senior finished in second place at the 2010 Wisconsin adidas Invitational 6,000-meter race last weekend, just 1.4 seconds behind Florida’s Charlotte Browning.

The Loveland, Ohio, native’s time of 20:15 beats her previous career best and led the No. 20 Spartans to a third place finish out of 20 teams in the contest.

MacLeod’s last award came Sept. 21, after finishing in first place with the time of 20:46 at the 2010 Spartan Invitational. It was the second straight season that MacLeod had crossed the line first.

Junior Carlie Green was also a top-10 finisher at the Wisconsin Invitational with an eighth-place finish. The Spartans were the only team to have two finishers in the top 10.
