Senior goalkeepr Avery Steinlage of the No. 21 MSU men’s soccer team was honored as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Steinlage was in net for more than 146 shutout minutes last week against Western MIchigan and Wisconsin.
He made six saves against Western Michigan in a 5-0 win and one save against Wisconsin in a 3-0 win.
In the two performances, Steinlage took over third place in the Big Ten in goals-against average (0.98), maintained second place in save percentage (.833), saves per game (4.62) and shutouts (4), and took over the number one spot in saves with 60.
