Freshman Borchard earns Runner of the Week honor

October 13, 2010

In a field of 200 runners at the Michigan Intercollegiate Championships, redshirt freshman Travis Borchard raced to 17th place and his first Big Ten Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Weekaward.

Borchard crossed the finish line with a time of 26:50 and was the best Spartan finisher.

He was followed closely by his teammate, freshman Sam Aklilu, who finished 19th. For the men, this is the second time a runner has taken home the weekly honor, the last going to Aaron Simoneau on Sept. 21.

Cornerstone’s Zach Ripley broke through the tape first with a time of 25:15.

Both the men’s and women’s weekly conference awards went to the Spartans for their performances last week.
