Student reports dorm room break-in

September 22, 2010

A 19-year-old female MSU student reported a jar of coins missing from her dorm in the 10 minutes she left the room to get a key for the newly installed lock, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

The break-in happened between 4:55-5:05 p.m. Friday in Bryan Hall, McGlothian-Taylor said. The student recently had the lock on her dorm room door replaced. She left the room to get the new key, leaving the door closed. When she returned, the jar of coins, valued at about $7, was gone.

The victim noticed a 6-foot, white male with medium-length, shaggy brown hair wearing a T-shirt and jean shorts in the hall both before and after she left the room. The suspect was about 18 years old.

The incident still is under investigation.
