The Big Ten announced Tuesday that Spartan runners from both the men’s and women’s cross country teams were the conference’s best performers in the past week.
Junior distance runner Aaron Simoneau and senior Emily MacLeod took home Big Ten Cross Country Runner of the Week Awards.
The week is full of firsts for Simoneau, who not only won his first Big Ten Men’s Cross Country Co-Runner of the Week, but captured his first individual title Friday at the Spartan Invitational.
Simoneau finished with a time of 24:28, beating his previous best 8,000-meter time by 50 seconds.
The Traverse City, Mich., native shares the award with Illinois runner Colin Mickow.
For junior runner Emily MacLeod, securing a Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honor was not a first.
She received the award for the second time in her career after finishing first at the Spartan Invitational in the 6,000-meter course.
MacLeod won the event for the second straight year and beat her time from last year by 21 seconds. She was the last Spartan to win the award in 2009 for her finish in this same event.
