New campus sculpture vandalized

The towering red and black sculpture on the north lawn of Snyder and Phillips halls was vandalized sometime between the afternoon of Sept. 3 and the morning of Sept. 8, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

The word “ART” was written in lettering about a foot high on The Funambulist in black permanent marker, McGlothian-Taylor said. The writing was at eye level on the sculpture before it was removed by unspecified means.

The damage was reported by a 57-year-old male MSU employee. Cost of damage to the sculpture was estimated at $100. The sculpture itself is worth $150,000.

There are no suspects and the incident is under investigation.
