After going undrafted in Thursday’s 2010 NBA Draft, former MSU forward Raymar Morgan was invited to play for the Washington Wizards in the NBA Summer League.
The Wizards will play five games in the league, which runs July 9-18 in Las Vegas. Morgan likely will get the chance to play with John Wall, whom the Wizards picked No. 1 overall in the draft.
As a four-year starter at MSU, Morgan averaged 11.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game for his career. He was an immediate impact player for the Spartans as a freshman, when he was the second leading scorer behind guard Drew Neitzel and was selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
In four years as a Spartan, Morgan played in two Final Fours and won two Big Ten Championships.
Morgan finished his career at MSU as one of five players in school history to score more than 1,500 points and bring in more than 700 rebounds.
Prior to the draft, most NBA analysts predicted the Canton, Ohio native would go undrafted or possibly be selected late in the second round. NBAdraft.net ranked Morgan as the 31st best small forward in the draft and the 91st best player overall.
Playing for Washington’s summer league team does not guarantee Morgan will sign a contract with the Wizards, but a strong performance could help the 6-foot-7-inch forward find a spot on an NBA team’s roster for next season.
