Man charged with armed robbery

March 28, 2010

A 44-year-old man suspected of robbing an East Lansing bank last week was arraigned Friday on a charge of armed robbery at the 54-B District Court.

Ronald Lee Nelson, of Gladwin, Mich., is being detained without bail until he is examined by the East Lansing Police Department, according to a press release from the city of East Lansing.

Nelson was arrested Thursday after he allegedly robbed the Bank of America branch located at 1390 W. Lake Lansing Road.

He is a former Livonia, Mich., police officer, according to various media reports.

East Lansing Police Department officials are working in conjunction with the FBI and area police departments to determine whether the East Lansing robbery is connected to a string of similar robberies.
