Celebration will honor statehood

A Statehood Day Celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Michigan Historical Museum, 702 W. Kalamazoo St., in Lansing.

The celebration will honor the 173rd anniversary of Michigan’s entry as the 26th state in the union. It is being sponsored by the Friends of Michigan History.

The event features music, historical re-enactments, craft demonstrations and other activities.

Admission is free and the first 100 visitors of the day will receive a free piece of cake in honor of Michigan’s birthday.
