Jones led the Big Ten and is third in the nation with 141 tackles. He also was fourth in the Big Ten in sacks with nine.
It is the second straight year the Spartans have had an All-American in some form. Last season, running back Javon Ringer was named an All-American by The Associated Press.
The last time the Spartans had an AFCA All-American was in 2002, when wide receiver Charles Rogers was named to the team.
Jones’ on-the-field award coincides with several off-the-field awards for the Spartans. Senior wide receiver Blair White recently was named an Academic All-American and, along with 10 other teammates, was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team.
