Volleyball team swept in 2 weekend games

October 11, 2009

The No. 18 MSU volleyball team was swept twice on the road this weekend, dropping its Big Ten record to 2-4.

The Spartans took Wisconsin to the brink in the second and third sets Friday but were unable to win either in a 3-0 loss.

MSU ran into trouble again Sunday against Iowa, where they fell behind early and were unable to come back from a 3-0 loss.

Sophomore middle blocker Kyndra Abron had 10 kills against Wisconsin, while sophomore outside hitter Becca Zlabis led the way against Iowa with eight kills and nine digs.

The losses drop MSU to 0-4 in Big Ten road games this season.

The team was 9-0 away from home in the nonconference on the way to a 12-0 start, but hasn’t had any luck in other conference venues.

MSU is 14-4 on the season. The Spartans hope to rebound at home this coming weekend as Ohio State and No. 1 Penn State visit East Lansing.
