A $200 wooden trash container was destroyed after it was found engulfed in flames Tuesday in the Beal Botanical Gardens, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.
An MSU police officer and the East Lansing Fire Department officials extinguished the fire, but the trash can, which was owned MSU Landscape Services, was burned beyond repair.
Police believe the fire, which had spread to the ground, was accidental but have no proof it was not set intentionally, McGlothian-Taylor said.
