Do you support making English the official language of the U.S.?

David Brown

“I do not approve of it. I think there’s too much diversity in America to set an official language.”

Dana Gustafson
human biology junior

“I don’t think we should have an official language because it’s a melting pot, so I think any language should be welcomed.”

Jeanne Underwood
marketing senior

“We’ve got to standardize a language, especially since we’re such a mixing pot as we are. English is the predominant language already; might as well make it the official language.”

Mike Borenitsch
human biology junior

“The majority of Americans do speak (English), and this country was brought up on speaking English so why not just keep going with it? If one day a majority is speaking Spanish or French or whatnot, then that should be the official language. It can always change; I don’t see why not. But for now, English will be it.”

Ricardo Charles
apparel and textile design alumnus

“It’s part of what America is. The reason people come here is to experience part of America, and to be a part of America is to speak English. If another language was being put in front of English, it’s taking away from American culture and why people originally come here.”

David Brown
media arts and technology junior
