US-127 ramp to be demolished Friday

April 19, 2009

The ramp and bridge from southbound US-127 to eastbound I-96 will be demolished Friday to begin a project to rebuild the structure this summer.

Work on the bridge will be done with one lane of traffic maintained at all times on the two-lane roadway.

The work is part of a $7.4 million project to extend the life of the bridges along US-127/I-496 between I-96 and Trowbridge Road.

Demolition of the bridge will require the closure of westbound I-96 for four nights. The closures will be 10 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Saturday, 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, 10 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday and 10 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Traffic from westbound I-96 will be detoured to the ramp from northbound US-127/I-496 to westbound I-496, back to westbound I-96. Travelers seeking to exit at Cedar Street on M-99 will be directed to Cedar Street or M-99 exits on westbound I-496.
